I moved every few years growing up. The memories that influence my work are scattered across places I've lived, like jumping off of waterfalls after school in Hawai’i, and riding down a sugar cane road in a rusty Volkswagen bus stuffed with a giant blow-up Godzilla. In Florida, I worked on a theme park ride as a "tour boat operator", defeating a giant mechanical shark amid fiery explosions every 15 minutes. (At the end of the day, my hair was similar to the self-portrait to the left). I suppose some of my quirky memories helped lead me into to a creative life.
I've worked over 15 years as an illustrator for magazines and books, designing wedding maps and creating paintings and installation art for galleries. I've listed some of those projects below. One of my favorites was framing a fun-house tiki mirror with 3,000 paper umbrellas. I studied at S.C.A.D. (B.F.A. in illustration) and the University of Sydney (M.F.A. in painting).
I'm a member of the SCBWI and I currently live in Florida with my cross-cultural family. And while I don’t have any pets, Frankie the sandwich-stealing squirrel comes through the backyard pretty often to see what’s on the menu.
